The Mayflower Compact and Its Creators

In this lesson, students will explore the influences of the Mayflower Compact and determine importance of the compact. The class will partake in a discussion about the people on the Mayflower, why they left England, what they hoped to accomplish, the relationships between the passengers, and the relationships between the Native Americans they encountered in America. To learn more about those on the Mayflower, students will also make inferences by using partial pieces of the compact and the primary sources they evaluate.   In order to determine the meaning of the compact, students will identify Latin and Greek morphemes. Students will also explore the impact the Mayflower Compact had by examining  and discussing  primary sources in small groups.
