The Emancipation Proclamation: Lesson on Genre, Rhetoric, and Diction

With this lesson, students with examine the Emancipation Proclamation to introduce a unit on equality.  By analyzing the significance of the document, students will have a better understanding of its implications for African-Americans of the time period.  The students will also create a Blackout Poem, based on the theme of “equality,” citing excerpts from the Emancipation Proclamation.
