The Wright Brothers: First Flight

First Flight, 120 feet in 12 seconds, 10:35 a.m.; Kitty Hawk, North Carolina

This lesson, taught to 3rd graders, explores the journey to create and fly the first heavier than air plane using primary sources.  The students complete the lesson by synthesizing primary sources about the Wright Brothers to create an expository writing piece describing the events that led to the invention of the airplane.  Additionally, this lesson plan helps 3rd graders understand the difference between primary and secondary sources.
